About Chengdu Famous Food 成都名吃

Authentic Sichuan Cuisine Crafted in Philly with Peppercorns and LOVE

Chengdu Famous Food 成都名吃 is a chinese restaurant in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is listed at 3635 Lancaster Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19104, which places it among the local businesses of Philadelphia that residents and visitors turn to when they need this kind of service close by. Google also lists it under sichuan restaurant, vegetarian restaurant, which is worth knowing if you are comparing several options in the area.

In cities with a Chinatown, weekend mornings bring dim sum carts or order sheets, and lines form early at the most popular spots in Philadelphia; walk-ins are standard and reservations are uncommon outside large banquet restaurants. Regional labels matter: Cantonese, Sichuan, Hunan, Shanghainese and Taiwanese kitchens cook very differently, so a restaurant's stated region is a better guide to the food than the word "Chinese" alone. Some smaller restaurants in Pennsylvania are BYOB with no corkage fee; call ahead to confirm. A tip of 15-20% is customary for table service but not expected at counter-order takeout. Spice level, MSG and allergen questions are normal to ask before ordering, and most kitchens are happy to leave an ingredient out or tone down the heat if you mention it when ordering rather than after the food arrives.

The business lists hours on 2 days of the week. On most of those days it is open 11 AM–9:15 PM. As with most places, expect changes around holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. No phone number is listed for this business, so the Google Maps link on this page is the best route for directions and any contact details Google has on file. More information is available on its website, chengduphilly.com.

Philadelphia is in Pennsylvania, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Philadelphia follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

Incredibly disappointed. Got the dry pot spicy pork, cooked wonderfully, spice was wonderful. Very well done. The only problem was the MSG and salt were completely out of control. I love spice, I love salt, I love MSG, but there was so much that I couldn’t even taste the food. Tried to clear my pallet with rice, rice tasted like MSG. I drank some water, water tasted like soap. I tasted the water before I ate, and there was nothing wrong with the water. My taste buds were just shot out. I had some Coca-Cola to wash the taste of MSG out of my mouth, tried the process again to see if it was just me. Nope very disappointed, considering how good the food could have been. I asked a young lady at the front what was up, she said, yeah the chef cooks like that. Didn’t offer to remake, didn’t offer me a refund, just gave me a 15% discount. So basically spent $20 on a side of rice and a Coke. Unbelievable. ***update: I’ve been eating “bold flavors” for the last couple of decades. I’ve also messed up dinner by adding too much salt. There is, in fact, a difference.

Writing this as I’m eating their food in my dorm haha. If you’re looking for authentic Sichuan food then this is THE place to go. I can only think of maybe two or three restaurants that are on par with this place spice-wise that are all located in Chinatown. I’m really happy that I can find this type of cuisine here in University City because I don’t have to take the train to Chinatown just to get Chinese food. As a Chinese person that grew up in both China and America, the amount of spice they have in their dishes is more than enough to satisfy your cravings for Sichuan cuisine. I came here first with my friends to dine-in but I couldn’t resist ordering take-out one week later because I was CRAVING their spicy edamame! Their dry pots are also very delicious and flavorful. Their non-spicy foods such as the pancake and potatoes are also well-made and crafted and tastes as authentic as it gets. Even the atmosphere itself reminds me of every other Chinese restaurant that my family and I used to go to back in China. I even kept a menu to myself when I first came because I knew that this was the spot for me to order from if I want familiar food. Definitely will be coming back to order r

Great food , friendly service , little small inside but if you’re looking for a great hole in the wall this is it.. food came out fast and everything tasted good . Pricing is a little bit up there but the quality is worth the price.

I’ve been coming to Chengdu Famous Food regularly—it truly feels like my second dining hall. The food is made by authentic chefs and aunties from Sichuan, and it shows: every dish is bursting with flavor, the portions are generous, and the prices are incredibly fair. What really sets this place apart is the warmth of the service. Every staff member is kind, attentive, and welcoming. It’s rare to find a place that tastes like home and treats you like family. If you're craving real Sichuan food near Penn or Drexel, this is the spot. Highly recommended!

Update 2025: We haven’t been in a while. Came today and every dish was cooked to perfection. I won’t make it a regular place for me because it’s a bit pricey overall, but I can’t ask for more from the dishes themselves. 10/10 quality food and service We spent about $100 without tip on 6 dishes (photos included). Oh and I love that the manager/owner has a good sense of humor in the reviews!! We’ll be back, but maybe one dish at a time to keep the spending down. 2022: Certain dishes are excellent. The last time I ordered (dumplings in chili oil and general tsos) I didn’t really like it much. Totally different flavor level from what I have come to expect from this place based on other dishes like the potatos and double—fried spicy chicken dish. Prices are much better direct than through online and delivery services.
